A New Game

by Ed Newell

(Damascus,Va.)

Rebecca, my daughter, was so excited this Christmas because she had found a new game in Cleveland that she wanted to make and give her nephews.

The game was Cornhole!

We had never heard of it, but told her we would help herbuild two cornhole boards, one for each of her brother's families. T

hen Bill, her brother, called and said he had found a new game called Cornhole that he was going to make for his boys. We discouraged him but did not let on that Becca was giving the same gift.

Mike called and said he was making a game for his boys called Corntoss. Same game! We discouraged him and went on with our plans.

On Christmas Eve, Becca and I went under our home, in Virginia's 7 degree temperature, and built our Cornhole games. By evening we had finished and loaded in the car to go to Bill's house. We arrived and saw his plans to build his Cornhole but he hadn't had time and had to cancel. His family was surprised and happy with Becca's gift.

Then to Mike's. He also had not built his Cornhole. We were overjoyed. A neighbor came to the door with their Christmas gift of a Cornhole game.

My wife, in tears, begged them to take it back, which they gracefully did.

Becca got to give her gift! All had a Merry Christmas that will be remembered as the Cornhole Christmas.

Thanks for a great Christmas!
