Boating Cornholer

by Barratt Sturtevant
(Portsmouth, VA)

I received my 3ft board set this week and my wife and I have had a blast. We had never played before. We live on a boat at a marina in Portsmouth, VA and people walking by stop to play. Although it' a little harder to score on the shorter Cornhole Boards, we opted for them due lack of storage space.

Make your own portible Cornhole Board

by Jim Pennington
(Schertz, Texas)

Actually, the only thing I bought from SC Cornhole was the Bags and a Bag to hold the bags. I spent a lot of time looking around the internet at Cornhole Sets and accessories, but came to the conclusion that I was better off making my own boards. I did review the Cornhole Dimension plans from SC, and also from another site. The thing I had a problem with for most sets was that I needed boards that I could take to the Frio River in my Honda. The SC boards did fold, but I didn't really want to spend that much.

I decided to modify the plans slightly by using half-inch plywood framed with cut in half 2x4 (except at the bottom of the board) I then hinged 2x4 legs at the top to make the one foot height, and a hinged length of 2x4 at the bottom for the three and a half inch height. This makes each board a flat approximately 2" thick. I could then stack the two boards in the trunk extended through the opening from the trunk when the back set is down in my Honda. The purchased Cornhole bags, which I bought from SC (the really nice all weather versions), were in the travel bag I also bought from SC.

I was able to take all of the stuff for my wife and I to stay in a cabin at the Frio river for 4 days - joined by our kids and grandkids. We had a blast playing cornhole on my newly made Cornhole boards.

Sure, the boards the SC has are wonderful, but these I painted myself, made myself, are very portable, but best of all I made for a song. If you are not so handy then buy them from SC. By far they have the best plans and designs. Also, I recommend buying their all weather bags. They are really durable, and I'm sure will give me years of service at the river.

Thanks for the people at SC for the great service in getting me the bags in just a few days, for having the great option of a tote bag to round out my portable set, and for the great idea of making the 2x2 package of flat boards for easy hauling.
