The Discovery of Cornhole...

My daughter, attending Western Michigan University, called home before a return visit to ask if I could help her make a "Bags Game" as a surprise birthday present for her boyfriend when she got home. I must admit that at the time I had no idea what she was talking about. I asked her to describe it but I just wasn't getting it. So I Googled "Bags Game" and near the very top of the results page was SC Cornhole.

Upon arriving at the site I found a very clear, simple to use, easy to navigate site that quickly taught me all that I needed to know about this "Bags Game" or Cornhole. Within seconds I found not only a thorough explanation and official rules of the game, I also found free easy-to-understand, downloadable plans in case one wanted to build a regulation set themselves.

Because this was to be a present from my daughter to her boyfriend, she thought that it would be great if she could give him a set that she helped make. So we bought the duck cloth and heavy duty thread, filler for the bags and the lumber to make the boards.

My 22 year-old daughter sewed and filled the bags herself and with my guidance and supervision, helped cut the boards to size, cut the holes and assemble them with deck screws. She even learned to use a router that day. I thought that it would be a nice added touch to quickly run a router around the game surface edges including the hole to give it a little nicer finished look and to maybe help to extend the life of the bags. We had a ball and they turned out great!

My daughter told us that EVERYONE at Western playsCornhole but the sets are all the cheap versions that you can buy at Walmart or poorly built homemade sets.

She also said that she got back to school and set the game up outside of his townhouse and then called him outside. He screamed like a little girl and laughed hysterically when he saw what his present was! She also said that on a campus of about 25,000 students, their set built with instructions from your site was by far the nicest set. Thanks a bunch, SC Cornhole!
